Key Swedish rules in 2026

For qualifying secured loans, the capital-deficit reduction is normally 30% up to SEK 100,000 and 21% above that threshold.
From income year 2026, interest on unsecured loans normally gives no tax reduction. Certain loans secured by a vehicle or securities may be treated differently.
Mortgage and amortisation rules can change. Always confirm your bank’s calculation and current rules before signing.

Compare before you borrow

Effective rate

The nominal rate excludes fees. Use the effective rate when comparing real annual cost.

Annuity or straight-line

Annuity gives a more even payment; straight-line repayment starts higher but normally reduces interest faster.

Credit assessment

Applications may trigger a credit check. Many applications in a short period can affect how lenders assess you.

Negotiate

Compare effective rates, request an amortisation schedule and ask for the discount in writing. Revisit the rate regularly.

Repay debt

Debt avalanche targets the highest rate first; debt snowball targets the smallest balance. Choose a method you can sustain.

Payment difficulties

Contact the lender and municipal budget and debt counselling early. Avoid taking new expensive credit to cover old debt.
